Insurance for Mobile Phones

Perhaps you may think obtaining insurance for your mobile phone is not worthwhile.

Maybe you have really good luck or possess lots of extra cash stowed away, then insurance may not be an important priority.

However, if neither of those two things sounds like they relate to you, then perhaps you should read on!

Is it truly yours?

A sobering thought is that everyone does not acknowledge individual rights to you possessing your phone. Plenty people are very happy to free your phone from you and gift it to themselves.

Slippery fingers?

Accident prone?

In a moment, your phone can change from a neccessary tool for daily tasks to being a useless technology gadget.

Ka-put!

Some people have karmic thoughts of life that dictates your phone will quit working very quickly after a manufacturer's appliance warranty time limit passed.

Guilty of being forgetful?

A benefit of advancing technology is many phones sold now are so compact and portable. Unfortunately, the same technology is making them easy to misplace or lose without being recovered!

Consequences

If any one of these things happens, you may find yourself wishing that you had mobile phone insurance because:
- replace the phone or purchased gadget at minimal or no cost to you
- trying to do without it for an extended period may result in significant disruption to your private and professional lives.

What mobile phone cover can typically do for you

To answer this question in fine detail and decide what may or may not be suitable for you, you'll need to look at the offerings of the insurance companies concerned and you should note that the gadget insurance policies are subject to policy limitations, exclusions, terms and conditions.

However, mobile phone cover will typically provide a range of protection including:
- speedy phone replacement under approved claims during the first 48 hours
- worldwide cover;
- breakdowns that occur beyond the manufacturer's specified warranty
- backup data and contact listings
- and cover for the loss and theft risks outlined above.

Not all things are equal

Insurance coverage for phones is commonly regarded as insurance for gadgets as well. It is important to be informed about a few issue:
- insurance companies typically do not regard iphones as ordinary mobile phones and special provisions/restrictions may apply;
- the provisions for insurance cover on laptops (which may also carry a telephone capability) typically do not include breakdown outside of manufacturer's warranty.

Multiple devices perform similar functions. It can be slightly challenging to categorize individual gadgets/phones as a defined mobile device, PDA, laptop computer, etc.

Typically, insurers that provide gadget and mobile phone insurance will be only too happy to clarify what category your particular device falls into.
